5 Proven Ways You Can Resolve with GRACE

Posted by on Jan 7, 2019 in Blog | 0 comments

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Its the New Year. Sooo… Happy 2019!

And ah, yes!…the resolution trends are running rampant. Have you considered what changes you want to make this year? Are you tired of the guilt and shame and negative emotions that come if you don’t do it?

Well don’t be! Resolve to “Resolve With Grace” this year! Taking a more holistic nurturing approach provides a life of consistent rejuvenation. Healing time for regeneration. Centering time for recalibration. Quiet time for imagination. Restful time for gratification. And even more healing time for self preservation.

Here are 5 things to consider when crafting your resolutions, or better yet, maybe you just want to write out ways you want to live a better, more full, and healthier life!

  1. Make Every Day “Day 1”. We all know and acknowledge January 1st as THE very first day of the year, but it does not diminish the power you have to start over every single day. Give yourself the grace to start anew the next day. Take pride in a fresh start tomorrow with days that didn’t go so well and be excited for another day to keep moving strong in the right direction on the days where you excel.
  2. Dream Big, Start Small. It is so important to dream, and really dream big! It is also important to understand the bigger the dream, the more steps its going to take to reach it. So the best way to achieve something so big and sometimes overwhelming, is to focus on what one thing you can do each day that will move you closer to the end goal. Write it out and make it plain. If its not written, then its not real. And then go for it. A bunch of small steps towards your dream ALWAYS equal a giant leap closer to who you are working hard to be.
  3. Have a Contigency Plan for Bad Days. What? I’m going to have bad days or even worse days when I could fail?? YES! And its best to go into this with the expectation that you are not going to do this perfectly. Acknowledge those faults and mishaps for what they are though and brush them off. Give yourself a minute to breath, process, and decide to get right back on track. What will you do if you are supposed to run outside every morning and it rains for a week straight? Or you plan to cut out all sweets and sodas and your company is having their corporate sponsored catered luncheons with pre-ordered food? Don’t get HANGRY! Know in advance what you are going to do on the days and in the moments when you are NOT going to feel like following your plan.
  4. Adjust to What You Need. Often times we get really excited about making these changes and we share them with others or plan to do things in a group. It can be discouraging when others start out more fit and slim then us or already eat fairly healthy or seem to get every project done on time. So stay focused on SELF. Listen to what your body is telling you. Be gracious with yourself in allowing you the time needed to build up endurance or focus. Make your plans according to what you want for you and not based on anyone else nor their goals.
  5. Plan Your Rewards. One part of all these resolutions, now healthy lifestyle changes, that often gets left out is the motivation piece. This doesn’t mean you stop and party after every little thing but you must absolutely acknowledge how far you have come. Know in advance what you are working towards and why. And do something special, just for you, when you get there. A massage, a special dinner, or even a whole day of rest. No matter how big or small, you deserve it.

And yes, you should celebrate! Celebrate you. Celebrate your wins. Celebrate how you have changed and become more stronger mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Whatever your resolution is, remember that your whole being is impacted and made better. And making it a life long healthy lifestyle change makes this even more evident.

So enjoy walking boldy, courageously, and ever so Gracefully into and through 2019. And as always, let us know if we can help.

Happy New Year!

Wishing you much success and many blessings all year long!

Every Pound Counts!

Every Pound Counts!

Many stress over the scale and the number associated with their weight. Sometimes its very easy to not celebrate the small victories when we are working towards weight loss, exercising more, or healthy lifestyle changes. Nobody ever does a happy dance and jumps up and down screaming when they have drank their goal water for the day, eaten extra servings of fruits and vegetables, and very rarely when you have done all this and the scale has only dropped on measly pound.

But its just like with anything else. You have to take it one day at a time, one moment at a time, one choice at a time, one step at a time, and YES even one pound at a time! Write down your goals and check off the things you accomplish. Know how many times a week you are going to the gym and what days specifically. Plan your meals for the week and snacks every 3 to 4 hours. Be conscious of the amount of water you are drinking and how much you need. Get in the habit of tracking these things and congratulate yourself for having more WINS than losses for the day and for the week!

Remember muscle is heavier than fat so the scale not moving or even going up could be a good thing. Look at that stuff, its uglier too! If you have lost 1 pound then you have had a success. So be proud and keep it going! Don’t be discouraged over losing a pound, 5 pounds are just 1 pounders repeated. And the only way to get to 5 and maintain it, is to have the daily habits to keep it off!

No stress, just sweat!

Its Tough Being Unplugged

Posted by on May 28, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

On the first time hearing the metaphors of our food industry and our traditional job force industry compared to being “The Matrix”, fashioned after the popular movie series, it immediately resonated and made so much sense. Just talking about being unplugged even scares some people away, let alone actually being unplugged…its tough! This unplugged means going against the norms, breaking free from daily mundane cycles, and actually acquiring knowledge or experience to learn to do better for yourself.

Check out this version of “The Meatrix” and meet our friend Leo and Moopheus.  The Meatrix

Now, that is a cool cartoon video shining light on our current farming industry and why we really have to be better informed with the things we eat, where they come from, and how it is made.

Why is this so important? Because if you aren’t informed of the whole other world that is out there, then you can’t possibly aspire to live in it and that in itself can be damaging to your health and quality of life. If you accept that when you get old it is the norm to be on multiple medications, have tons of immobilizing aches and pains, not being able to take care of yourself, and not having teeth then that is what you’ll expect to be like. But if you open your eyes and look at those who are 100 years old and have all their teeth or 90 years old and still traveling the world or 85 years old and running in marathons or competing in triathlons then you’ll see there is so much more to this thing called life.

There was this success CD playing, from a big name in business and leading entrepreneur, and he said “If someone else has done it, well then so can you. Nobody was given less or more of anything, it is just what you do with what you are given.” Think about that for a minute. Why do we often see someone else’s success and think , well good for them but I couldn’t do that or I’m not as smart as them or dedicated or whatever it is that the voice in your head says? It is absolutely possible. This can relate to personal goals, business goals, career changes with great success, health and weight loss goals, and fitness goals.

So now that you know, you have no excuse. You have to at least try. They say most people give up before they even start. Imagine what it would be like to start and just decide that no matter how long it takes, you just don’t give up. Wow, how exciting that would be…you’d be destined for success in accomplishing whatever you started out to do. Every time you fail and get back up to try again you learn something new to put forth a different kind of effort or you made a little bit more happen towards your end goal, you just aren’t there yet but failing forward is succeeding. Did you know that it took Thomas Edison 1000 tries before he got the light bulb to work?! Where would our society be right now without that 1001 trial? Its never too late to start or to try something new and different. Thomas Edison would never be seen as a failure now, but he sure did seem crazy around that first couple of hundred times im sure, let alone at 999. But he did not give up!

Thomas Edison’s teachers said he was “too stupid to learn anything.” He was fired from his first two jobs for being “non-productive.” As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” Edison replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”

This quote taken from the website: “But they did not give up!” Check it out: http://www.uky.edu/~eushe2/Pajares/OnFailingG.html

Unplugging is hard work, but somebody has to do it…let it be you. No worries, we got you.

Genes aren’t really affecting your Jeans

Posted by on May 26, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

Genetics are your tendency, not your destiny.

So many of us have been completely swindled and bamboozled into thinking a diagnosis is our fate, when in fact most things we battle and the most common conditions that ail us are completely preventable. So much so that diet and lifestyle changes can actually reverse the effects of the disease or even keep it from ever plaguing us in the first place. If you are a diet soda drinker, then you have a greater risk of being overweight. Period. Doesn’t matter what your DNA says or what your mom looks like. The reverse of that is the exact opposite because even if there are markers in your DNA for certain illnesses, you can change what you drink and eat to lessen the chances of ever even facing those things. Now let’s be clear, does that mean every single disease is reversible or influenced by diet and lifestyle? Absolutely not!

But a majority of us DON’T fall in that category! The extra weight we carry and toxins we introduce into our systems are often the root to all our evil. The good news is, we can change that. We can do something about it. That’s when the magic happens because your body can begin to repair itself. The cholesterol that’s been building up can be cleared out, the irregular blood sugar spikes can be regulated, the irritability and restless insides can be tamed, the toxins and bad fat or excess weight can be release, the inflammation and subsequent joint pain…GONE! When the body doesn’t have to fight, it won’t. And the peace that follows is healing within itself.

This is not always an easy transition to make and some people don’t even see how this has anything to do with them but we are way more affected by our surroundings and how we grew up than we think. Some people with high blood pressure think they will always have it or can’t control it because people in their family had it and couldn’t control for the last 3 generations. That’s just not true. Yes we are pre-disposed to some things that might make it more of a struggle for us but when you feed your body as well as your mind matters. Change your mind, change your life. If you believe you have the power to impact your health in a positive and dramatic way, you can. IT IS AS EASY AS THAT! But you must believe, and even moreso, you must act on your belief.

Where It Starts

Posted by on May 12, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

I had a conversation with a new client, and as I always do I ask many background questions to figure out where someone is on their health journey and what there plans are for themselves. Many times people are taunted with the ideals and goals of what others want for them or where they think they should be without giving much thought to what they actually want for self. I asked, “What are your health goals?” And the first words out are “Well my doctor said, I need to…” That language and the tone used already lets me know that this is something impressed onto her without checking in first or even taking into consideration how she feels.

With each and every person I work with I focus on giving them a voice in their health, I want it to be an educated and fully developed voice, but yet and still theirs. As a health care provider it is my duty to protect people from harm as much as possible, with the knowledge and skills that I have, but I cannot live someones life for them or make them do anything I tell them. Knowledge is only half the battle. The other half, and what I call the very first step is the mental decision to act. There is nothing I can tell you or nothing you will ever learn that will make you healthy. Knowledge is power only if followed by action. It requires mental preparation and the commitment to self.

No one is any better than you or more capable than you. Whatever someone else has done, it is most definitely possible for you.

Why is Casting Away so hard?

Posted by on May 5, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

Many times the hardest part of my job is helping people find, see, and acknowledge the value of themselves. Life is hard. But your life matters. You can ask any group of people or even individuals “What is the number one thing most people neglect?” and you will almost always get the unanimous response, “THEMSELVES”. I’ve tested this in church groups, business networking meetings, and with clients we work with. It is always the same. Why is that? Because we have all the stuff in our lives weighing us down that we see the best fit of our time must be to try and take care of all that first and then us. How backwards is that? By the time we take care of everything else, we won’t have anything left of ourselves to take care of.

Since when does life stop giving us more things to do? When and where does everything else end? There is always something. We must take the things that really are not that important and say “No More”. No more will I put work before my health and skipping meals. No more will I not exercise because I’m just too tired, everyday. No more will I bypass investing in my health and get massages or seek therapy because I’m just too busy. No more will I live under the negative beliefs and barriers put up by others. No more will I accept the “No” that I’m told too often, I will get it done and succeed. No more will I only take care of my children, because my children need me in my best state to be the best I can be for them. No more will my job or my business overrun me to the point of exhaustion so I can’t even take a nice deep breath and enjoy the day, recognize the fact that I am alive. No more will I ignore that I must take care of me or there won’t be a me to take care.

Take some time today, take some deep breaths, schedule a massage, go exercise, eat healthy…actually eat multiple meals today, and begin casting away those things that are not complimentary to the goals you are working so diligently to achieve. The first step is the hardest, but it only takes one step…take it today.   Casting away all that isn’t you…let us know how we can help 😉

1 Peter 5:6-7

New International Version (NIV)

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

You cannot be FAT!

Posted by on May 1, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

There is a way to shed light on an issue without damaging the very core of a persons spirit. We clearly have a health crisis in our country and in the world, obesity is an epidemic and it is spreading rampantly. But why doesn’t it seem like people care or are taking the initiative to get themselves healthier? Because we have allowed the media, public, and just overall society to shape our minds and verbiage on the issue to make everyone outwardly fat and inwardly lazy or a glutton. For this very reason, people who are trying to lose weight are seen as either trying to do it to impress someone, be like someone else, or get attention from the opposite sex. People actually discourage you from losing “too much” weight when you are simply becoming healthy saying things like “you look sick” or “don’t get too skinny, you disappear”. That is just nonsense! Especially since having unhealthy fat in our bodies actually causes us to be sick and being skinny does not mean your are healthy! We have been brainwashed to believe that everyone who is trying to lose weight is trying to be like the stars on TV or be someone they are not. Now, don’t get me wrong, some people do wrongfully idolize celebrities and go through drastic measures and I’m not downplaying the harmful effects of that on our own personal images but those are typically a small percentage of people who make the decision to lose weight. A death warning from a doctor, the need to exercise to get stronger, to feel good about yourself and feel better with more energy, or how about just wanting to play with your kids without getting winded…are those not notable reasons enough to want to make a change?

But how does it get to that point without triggering some serious reflection and change? People have so desensitized the word fat and being fat that it has been widely accepted as ok and as a norm for some people. Statements such as people just being “big-boned” or everyone in their family being that way or even eating that way is just how they were raised. People exclaim that they don’t no any different and are ok with dying fat and happy. This has led us to be numb to other conditions that are the leading causes of death such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer! Everyone wants to fight this and beat that but no one wants to attack the battle we have with food addictions. We must first acknowledge that you CANNOT be fat! You are NOT fat! No one ever says “I am diabetes” or “I am cancer” or “You are heart disease”, obesity is just as much a chronic illness and condition as these things but it is NOT who you are! We must call it the monster it is and face it head on so we stop being complacent and truly make a difference in this world to begin saving lives that preventable diseases are stealing from us!

“I have excess weight that I am striving to get rid of and won’t let come back, I am currently not at my ideal size but with proper diet and exercise I will achieve my goals and no longer be a statistic in the obesity crisis. I will add years to my life by subtracting these harmful fat cells full of toxins from my body!”

Declare you are NOT fat, you are beautifully and wonderfully made!

Eating healthy is really not more expensive!

Posted by on Apr 29, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

Eating healthy is not more expensive, it is more inconvenient.

We have to re-train our thoughts and our minds to stop believing limiting statements. We have to analyze the words that come out of our mouths and the beliefs we carry around in our hearts. Eating healthy requires more work, being healthy is priceless. Understanding the importance of cost versus price. Would you rather redirect $10 a week now in your budget towards making better life choices or pay a $100 copay per each prescription of medicine, if that low if you’re lucky, and pay monthly on hospital and medical bills? Spending an extra dollar on antibiotic and hormone free meats will be a seamless charge on the grand scheme of it all. The problem is most people don’t monitor there spending so they don’t realize in the course of a month where there money actually goes. Maybe you are unknowingly giving $100 a month to McDonalds or Starbucks or even the convenience store that you stop at on a regular basis. Whether $50 or $100 or more, that can make a huge difference on your grocery store purchases or how you feed yourself and your family. Most of the time people wind up eating out, though they don’t think they do often, because they didn’t plan their meals out for the flow of their day. If you travel around a lot do you know the healthy spots? If you are at work all day do you throw a dollar or two a day in the vending machine? Pack snacks, go buy in bulk and separate it out to have food for the week. Cook meals and go ahead as you are putting food away and separate out into containers what you can take with you to heat and eat. No microwave? Awesome! Explore easy recipes like tuna salad, chicken salad, or home made subs! Fruits and vegetables on the go are always great options and a very easy way to get in the necessary 7-13 servings a day with a mix of raw and cooked.

What one thing can you start doing today? What one thing will you commit to buying less? Track your habits for 30 days and see for yourself. Sodas and cigarettes and knick knacks add up super fast…do the math on your spending!

Eating healthy is a process and a lifelong journey, your biggest challenge is identifying areas of weakness, deciding on how to change it, and then DOING IT!
